Remarks
Aboard the Viking 64 Convertible the cockpit boasts 180 square feet of working space including a mezzanine deck. The mezzanine actually enhances the cockpit and makes it feel larger because every important detail is built in and then some. Bait freezers for example are under-mounted to increase capacity. A step to the salon lifts to expose a cavernous drink cooler. The mezzanine is especially desirable on a yacht this size because it creates an upper and lower cockpit; spectators are close to the action but never in the way of the angler or wireman and never obstruct the captains view of the cockpit. In addition the mezzanine provides an excellent place to relax at the dock or enjoy welcome shade during the mid-day troll. For a very special touch misters can be added to the underside of the bridge overhang which emit a refreshing mist of water to cool the area. Standard amenities include a one-piece anodized aluminum ladder to the flying bridge a molded nonslip fiberglass sole with aluminum plate reinforcement for fighting chair placement stainless-steel hardware walk-through transom door with lift gate an in-deck fishwell with a macerator pump flush rod holders gaff tag stick and mop stowage fresh and salt water washdown systems engine room and lazarette access. For dockside convenience there are port and starboard Glendinning shore power cord reels. Experienced anglers also will appreciate the increased transom shape which provides better maneuverability in reverse to help gain line and outgun big fish.Cruising yachtsmen will appreciate the wide-open space afforded by the 64 Convertibles cockpit for entertaining and dockside versatility. And with the available climate-controlled enclosed bridge they will enjoy what is essentially a second salon. A spiral staircase from the salon to the bridge also is available.
Accommodations
The resplendent interior of the Viking 64 Convertible is especially spacious thanks to the yachts generous 19-foot 2-inch beam. The sheer volume also allows a variety of interior plans to suit an array of owner requirements. In the salon for instance there is a choice of either an L-shaped sofa with a pair of plush bar stools at the galley counter or a U-shaped sofa. Both arrangements include a custom hi-lo table and provide superb viewing of the 40-inch plasma television screen framed in teak cabinetry above the dinette. An electrically operated door simplifies egress to the salon from the cockpit at the touch of a button. Teak valances conceal air conditioning registers for maximum cooling and reduced noise levels. High gloss joinery throughout the salon and rich designer fabrics and appointments abound. The U-shaped galley is on the same level as the salon and is designed for maximum efficiency. Convenience and practicality merge throughout the galley with Sub-Zero under counter refrigeration an electric cooktop trash compactor and custom grade Corian countertops. Whether prepping gourmet meals at the yacht club dock or making snacks for the nightshift 100 miles offshore the galley keeps every amenity close at hand. Stowage is both bountiful and easy to reach. Premium Amtico teak and holly flooring is beautiful and durable for life at sea. Opposite the galley the dinette seats four comfortably. The Viking 64 Convertible is available with three or four staterooms and three heads. To provide maximum flexibility and accommodate virtually any fishing or cruising assignment the forward stateroom can be outfitted with crossover berths in lieu of the standard queen berth. The master suite is an elegant stateroom with an athwartship queen bed that lifts to expose a huge stowage area below. Standard features include a 32-inch flat screen television Bose 321 entertainment system his and her maple-lined hanging lockers teak end tables and a four-drawer credenza. With 360-degree commanding views the centerline helm gives the captain an outstanding edge to keep his eyes on the action. Sightlines are eagle-sharp for watching baits and monitoring navigation electronics and engine instrumentation. The fiberglass helm pod is arranged for maximum utility with single-lever electronic controls and power-assisted hydraulic steering which deliver uncanny response for a yacht of its length thanks to the high-speed stainless-steel rudders. The flying bridge also provides a pair of lounges stowage for fishing rods and loose gear a chill box for drinks and an available deep freezer ahead of the console. Helm and companion pedestal seats are standard. A climate-controlled enclosed bridge version of the Viking 64 also is availableThe stand-up engine room features Vikings leading edge powder-coated web-frame structural steel engine beds. These are mounted to dedicated transversals for vibration free engine and drive train alignment. Various engine packages from Caterpillar and MTU are available and depending upon the power load and sea conditions the 64 Convertible will cruise in the mid-30 knot range and have top speeds approaching 40 knots depending upon load and sea conditions. Standard fuel capacity is 1930 gallons in Viking-made fiberglass tankage which is then fiberglassed into the hull. All tankage (including water and waste tanks) are designed to mirror the hull bottom to maximize draw increase hull strength and reduce the center of gravity. Fuel capacity can be increased to 2180 gallons. For stability and sea keeping ability the running surface features a convex deadrise shape matched to an aggressive entry with sharpened waterline sections. The convex deadrise adds curvature and form to the hull bottom which increases the lifting motion in a seaway. Upon re-entry the hull meets the water softly to enhance the ride and overall comfort. The hull is cored with end-grain balsa and the bottom is vacuum-bagged to hand-laid fiberglass laminates. Through-hull areas including struts shaft logs and water intakes penetrate solid fiberglass. All overboard discharge through-hull fittings are manufactured of fiberglass and to minimize engine noise an underwater exhaust system is standard aboard the 64 Convertible.NOTE: All photos are manufacturer photos
